Timeless and chic stripes have a sporty and stylish history which makes them perfect wardrobe staples.
In France the stripy blue and white Breton top is known as la marinière. The French navy specified the uniforms of all naval personnel in 1858 and it was included alongside items such as baggy trousers and a hat topped off with a pom pom. It's easy to see which one was adopted by Coco Chanel and later picked up by a more bohemian set in the 1950s and 60s.
The Breton top hasn't gone out of fashion since and here at Outsider you can have your pick of the stripes...
Firstly how about our Bamboo Stripe Boat Neck Top [SOLD OUT]? Made from a timelessly chic white and blue stripe jersey fabric, it has a boat neck line which sits just above the collar bone and three-quarter length sleeves. You can style this versatile top with your organic jeans at the weekend or a pencil skirt for the office. Made from a soft to touch bamboo blend fabric.
Next we have a Bamboo Stripe Jersey Dress [SOLD OUT], perfect for when the weather warms up. This jersey mini dress has a relaxed and sporty feel. In a sweet shade of cream and navy, finished with a flattering scooped neckline. It slips on over the head and is semi-fitted in the body. Style it with white lace ups or layer over leggings.
And last but not least we have some great striped bamboo socks – available in colours to match any outfit: slate grey and oat, light grey and pink or yellow and oat.
